By Scheherazade BloulRabat – Isis, it’s the name of the ancient Egyptian goddess of health, wisdom and marriage as well as a popular first name among many women across the world. Not according to Facebook, however, who blocked user Isis Anchalee from re-entering her account. The 22-year-old engineer who started the #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign earlier this year claims she couldn’t enter her Facebook account on Tuesday. Facebook thinks I’m a terrorist. Apparently sending them a screenshot of my passport is not good enough for them to reopen my account.— Isis Anchalee (@isisAnchalee) November 17, 2015It has been common practice among social media platforms to ban terrorist organisation from having accounts. The acronym ISIS is regularly used by the media to refer to the terrorist organisation of the so-called Islamic State. For Anchalee, this is not the first time her name has attracted unwanted attention or links to the terrorist organisation. So apparently I am one of the featured accounts for both #ILookLikeAnEngineer and #ISIS. Can I get a “yes yes” to forever call them Daesh?— Isis Anchalee (@isisAnchalee) November 17, 2015Anchalee was put in the media spotlight in early autumn when she posted a picture of herself to social media to address sexism female engineers face. Great Q&A with @isisAnchalee, creator of stereotype-busting #ILookLikeAnEngineer campaign: https://t.co/0ndaVRHtQw pic.twitter.com/hlXEFTGPs7— Melissa Wylie (@mw_bizwomen) October 21, 2015For the meantime, Anchalee has been marked safe by Facebook and can carry on using her account.Third time sending in my information is the charm I guess.
